        As your Councilwoman, Lisa has focused on our city’s financial health and solvency by carefully reviewing and allocating our $31 million budget. She has also addressed public health issues, infrastructure needs, population growth and its demands, and continued to promote annual tree plantings with Tree City USA.


        Using her life experience as a wife, mother, and neighbor, combined with her professional work as an attorney and Administrative Law Judge and her experience on North Salt Lake’s City Council and Planning Commission, Lisa really knows her stuff.  Please take a look at her expertise and years of quality service to our thriving city.  

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Lisa Baskin is a local citizen who genuinely wants to help you and our city through her experienced and capable leadership.  Her governmental law work has included legal representation to cities along the Wasatch Front regarding ethics provisions, ordinance drafting, policy analysis, city council work, and citizen initiatives and referenda.  Lisa serves on North Salt Lake’s City Council, Tree City Board, Senior Lunch Bunch, and the Legislative Policy Committee with the Utah League of Cities and Towns.  She is your Mayor Pro Tem.  She practices law at a private firm and as an Administrative Law Judge.  

Lisa has served on numerous boards including the Real Women Run Executive Committee, Founding Member;  Utah Foster Care Foundation, Executive Board and Chair; Guardian Ad Litem Oversight Committee; Voices for Utah Children Executive Board; and the Utah Constitutional Revision Commission, Executive Director.   She clerked at the Utah Supreme Court, and has lawyered at the Utah State Legislature, in law firm practice, sole practice, and is an Administrative Law Judge.  She is licensed to practice law in Utah state and federal courts, California, District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court.  She is a graduate of Utah State University, University of Oregon, and J. Reuben Clark Law School, BYU.

  • Recognizes our outstanding city staff who work diligently to plant trees annually, plow snowy streets, repair and replenish roads, pipes, sidewalks, and park facilities, serve in city hall, and keep us safe from crime and natural disasters. 

An Advocate Who:

  • Promotes and trains women to serve in public office and on boards and commissions.

  • Assists with citizen initiatives and referenda.

  • Voted for creating a Health and Wellness Committee.

  • Demands transparency, including GRAMA compliance and accurate minutes.

  • Promotes traffic-calming and safety measures for GSL Legacy Scenic Byway.

  • Seeks Stericycle’s final departure from North Salt Lake.

  • Supports programs to improve Eaglewood Golf Course’s solvency and service.

  • Prefers Ranked Choice Voting in future elections.

An Innovator Who:

  • Listens, learns, and leads.

  • Team sponsored 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.

  • Voted to create a city dog park with Woods Cross. 

  • Voted to install Google Fiber citywide.  

  • Plans to secure a long-term water supply, including compacts for GSL water levels and water conservation efforts.

  • Seeks mitigation for contaminated groundwater.

  • Allocates ARPA Funds for infrastructure and social needs equitably.

  • Supports Hatch Park renovations, including electric charging stations. 

  • Promotes continued live feeds of City Council and Planning Commission meetings.

  • Focuses on tree plantings, donations, and dedications with signage.

  • Uniformly applies building, planning, and zoning ordinances.

  • Prepares for emergencies as a block captain.   

  • Amends and drafts city ordinances.

  • Values city website improvements on outreach.

  • Seeks creative solutions to city problems. 

  • Keeps bees for the environment and honey production.

My philosophy is that every citizen should participate in civic dialogue and community affairs, bringing their individual strengths, ideas, and abilities to the mix.

Lisa's husband is Rob Baskin.  Dr. Rob is a retired scientist (hydrologist), Emeritus, with the U.S. Geological Survey, GSL researcher and explorer,  and recipient of the 2016 Utah Governor's Medal for Science & Technology.  Sons, Paul, a sophomore at The Ohio State University medical school, and Thomas, a senior in computer science at USU, keep their parents humble and make them proud.
