        As your Councilwoman, Lisa has focused on our city’s financial health and solvency by carefully reviewing and allocating our $31 million budget. She has also addressed public health issues, infrastructure needs, population growth and its demands, and continued to promote annual tree plantings with Tree City USA.


        Using her life experience as a wife, mother, and neighbor, combined with her professional work as an attorney and Administrative Law Judge and her experience on North Salt Lake’s City Council and Planning Commission, Lisa really knows her stuff.  Please take a look at her expertise and years of quality service to our thriving city.  

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Lisa Baskin is a local lawyer who genuinely wants to help you and our city through her experienced and capable leadership.  Her public interest work has included representation of numerous cities along the Wasatch Front on ethics provisions (SLC), ordinance drafting and policy analysis (Ogden), as a contract city council attorney (Provo), and citizen advocacy for various cities and statewide initiatives.  Through her dedicated civic involvement, Lisa has been your Mayor Pro Tem from 2020-2021.  She serves on North Salt Lake’s City Council, Tree City Board, Senior Lunch Bunch, Uniting Neighbors, and the Legislative Policy Committee with the Utah League of Cities and Towns.  She practices law at Rencher | Anjewierden and the Utah Inspector General’s Office (2014 to present) as an Administrative Law Judge.

 

Lisa has served on various community boards including Real Women Run Executive Committee, Chair and Founding Member; Utah Foster Care Foundation’s Executive Board, Chair; Guardian Ad Litem Oversight Committee; Voices for Utah’s Children Executive Board; and the Utah Constitutional Revision Commission, Executive Director and Member.   She worked as a law clerk at the Utah Supreme Court (1988-1990); at the Utah State Legislature (1990-1997);  in law firm practice at Plant, Wallace (1997-2003); in sole practice (2003-2020); as an Administrative Law Judge with the Office of Inspector General (2014-present) and the Utah Insurance Department (April 2017-2020). She is licensed to practice law in Utah, California, District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court.

  • Allocates ARPA Funds for infrastructure and social needs equitably.

  • Hopes to complete the 1100 North Overpass.

  • Continues live feeds of City Council and Planning Commission meetings.

  • Focuses on tree plantings, donations, and dedications with signage.

  • Uniformly applies building, planning, and zoning ordinances.

  • Prepares for emergencies as a block captain.   

  • Amends and drafts city ordinances.

Lisa's husband is Rob Baskin (Yes, it sounds like the ice cream company).  Rob is a scientist emeritus (retired) from the U. S. Geological Survey, a Ph.D., Great Salt Lake researcher,  and Recipient of the 2016 Utah Governor's Medal for Science & Technology.  Their sons, Paul, a sophomore at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and Thomas, a senior majoring in computer science at Utah State University, keep their parents humble and make them proud.
